Located on the banks of the Androscoggin River is the best kept fishing secret in Maine. Bethel Outdoor Adventures has pull through, full hook ups sites, great wifi reception and is pet friendly. You can pick up your fishing licenses when you check in at the convenience cabin which also carries basic necessities.
There was so much to see and do here. Accessible from the campground itself are canoe, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and tube rentals. Guided fishing trips are also available. The 500 foot long Burma Bridge crosses the Androscoggin River to Hastings Isle where there is a 1 mile walking trail that allows for birdwatching, wildlife watching and serenity. Ask at the check in for the key to unlock the gate.
Starting at the campsite there is a paved bike path we took our bikes on. It was a nice ride curving into the quaint town of Bethel less than a mile away which hosts great shops, thrift stores, a bait store, a grocery store and a basement pub at with a wide variety of beer, mostly local and great grub.
If you into hiking Sunday River Ski area is 5 miles away. On your way stop at the BBQ Bus and pick up some freshly smoked ribs and briskest. And it’s a must to have a pint in Sunday River Brewing Company!
I think the regular rate was $38 but we stayed there mid-week and were able to use our Passport America discount
Don’t forget to get yourself some nice BBQ at “Smokin’ Good BBQ” and the Healthfood Store next to it offers local wines which is less than 0.25 miles away.
